"We're going on a pumpkin hunt / Going to find a big one...I'm not scared. / Are you? / Not me." A group of farm animals in Halloween costumes sets off in search of a pumpkin. The pastel-toned palette of the ink-and-watercolor illustrations indicates that this "shiver-in-your-socks night" isn't meant to be too scary; even the night sky is just a deep lavender--and the grinning pumpkin the animals ultimately find is the height of the thrills and chills. A preschool-friendly intro to Halloween, with plenty of opportunities for sound effects. (For a slightly spookier take on the bear-hunt rhyme, see We're Going on a Goon Hunt, reviewed at left.)

Hollywood Sisters series.
Being the sister of a famous sitcom actress brings excitement to Jessica Ortiz's life. She hangs out at the show's set, which--conveniently--keeps her close to her crush, her sister's co-star. She also works to uncover who's been playing pranks on one of the show's stars. This installment rehashes the same issues as the first two series titles, but it's entertaining.

Hollywood Sisters series.
Thirteen-year-old Jessica enjoys being part of her up-and-coming television actress sister Eva's small entourage. She gets to meet celebrities and travel on location. When pranks and mishaps plague the show, Jessica sets out to discover who is behind it, but the suspicion ends up back on her. This light and entertaining read is marred by bland characterization.

Hollywood Sisters series.
Shy Jess's older sister, Eva, is a star on a hit TV show, and that's just fine with Jess. What isn't fine is that someone is launching a tabloid smear campaign against Eva. Although this novel displays the stereotypical tendencies of others of its ilk, the focus on the unfamous sister is refreshing and the mystery is entertaining.
